We announced the news to some of our family on Christmas Eve. The reactions were substantially different this time, but not any less special.
My Dad was in Winnipeg for Christmas this year, so I decided to wait and call on Christmas Day to tell him. He was very happy, and said he'd suspected since Halloween, which was just a few days after we found out. He said I was a very, very tired Amy Winehouse, so he knew right away.
I told him the official due date was July 7th, and the conversation went like this:
Dad: Oohhh...maybe the baby will come late and share Grampa's birthday.
Amanda: When is Grampa's birthday?
Dad: July 9th (he says in a rather irritated tone).
Amanda: What? Grampa has the same birthday as you? How is it possible that I never knew this?!
Dad: No, no...I'm the Grampa!
I had a good laugh at myself after that. Poor Dad - thought I didn't even know his birthday. Will I have to start referring to him as Grampa now? That is just confusing.

Yup. Your Dad is now Grandpa, your husband is now Daddy, your brother is now uncle...oh, you get the point. And the best part, you are the Mommy! (You also have to start refering to yourself in the third person.)
This post was HILARIOUS!! Your poor dad. I fully understand your confusion, however. It does take a while to get accustomed to all the new names for everyone around you. I still remember that in the first couple of days at home, I was talking to Jak and called myself "Auntie". I had been Auntie for so long that it just popped out. A little weird to get used to being the mommy, but you'll get the hang of it soon enough!
I think the hardest for me has been calling MY gramma, Great-Gramma. What a weird transition THAT is ... makes her seem older, which of course she is. That made me a little sad at first to realize, but it is an amazing thing when you see the 4 generations in effect if you are so fortunate.
Great post!
