Words To Work By

I had a rough day today - work wise.

I have these words hanging on the wall by my desk. They've been there for a while now, and usually go unnoticed. It's not until I've had an unusually challenging day that I look to them again, for some inspiration, guidance, and hopefully, inner peace.

The Four Agreements

1. Be impeccable with your word - speak with integrity; say only what you mean; avoid using the word to speak against yourself or gossip about others; use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love.

2. Don't take anything personally - nothing others do is because of you; what others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream; when you are immune to the opinion and actions of others, you won't be the victim of needless suffering.

3. Don't make assumptions - find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want; communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness and drama; with this one agreement, you can completely transform your life.

4. Always do your best - your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick; under any circumstance, simply do your best; and you will avoid self judgment, self abuse and regret.

Where is this from? I have read it somewhere, I remember having scribbled it in my notebook at work, and I comitted it to memory, but I don't remember where I read it. Anyway, I even use it to help my children understand their world. Do your best, don't take things personally, don't make assumptions. Very good advice.

It's from the book "The Four Agreements." Migel something?

Great post.

When I have a crappy day at work, all I have to do is play "trucks" and it gets better. Maybe i will drop off some of my son's hotwheels and you can keep them in your drawer?

Love these! I think I might print them and put them by my desk, too.
Hopefully today at work was better than yesterday!
